Maritime Museum

Situated in the bustling heart of Rotterdam, the Maritime Museum Rotterdam is one of the world’s top maritime museums. It was founded in 1874 and is the oldest maritime museum in the Netherlands.

For generations the museum has shown its visitors the impressive maritime history of Holland, including the exceptional position of the international Port of Rotterdam. The museum not only shows the shipbuilding- and shipping history of Holland, but also introduces the visitors the the present and future maritime world.

CollectionThe Maritiem Museum Rotterdam is founded in 1874 and is the oldest maritime museum of the Netherlands. De foundation of the collection was layed in 1852 by Prince Hendrik (1820-1879) and has grown to over a half millon items. Because of the quality of the items, that cover a period of five centuries, the museum belongs to the top of maritime museums of the world.

ExhibitionsThe exhibitions are the most important instruments of the Maritime Museum Rotterdam, to tell the stories of the maritime world. The Maritime Museum Rotterdam has an objective to create awareness on the influence of the maritime worlds of the past, present and future. The museum presents different exhibitions for every age category.
